  McIntire Little League Coke

Early Season Coke Report
April 05, 2009

The 2009 MLL Coke team has completed the early, pre-Spring Break stretch of our season. While the win/loss results have not been exactly what we desired, this team has accomplished much in the early season. Our team Captain, Jonah Franke Fuller has been the leader that we hoped he'd be. He's been stellar on the mound; almost flawless in the field and been a steading influence in the team "locker room." 12 year old Stephen Wilder has impressed behind the plate, on the mound and in the clean up role on offense. Jonathon Anderson has made his much anticipated pitching debut, throwing with a great deal of efficiency (as measured by strike to ball ratio). He displays a power arm & bat that will be weapons as we move into the heart of the season. Michael Mullin is starting to swing the bat well; he had a break out game against Craig Builders in Game 3 and we expect we'll see much more from him as the season progresses. Our remaining 12 year olds, Conor Merricks and AJ Harper are finding their strides. Both have shown improvement at the plate and a willingness to "do what is needed" in the field to help us succeed.

11-year old Banks Northington has carried us at the plate in the first 4 games. He's been "Mr. Versatility" in the field, logging time at Pitcher, Catcher, Short Stop, 3rd Base and 2nd Base. Alex Jacques has made his pitching debut as well, along with logging significant time at 2nd base and in the outfield. Alex is a great athlete and is learning how to use his athleticism in the game of baseball.

Our 10-year olds are all new to the Majors in 2009. Sam Ryan is catching a couple of innings most games, a sign of great things to come down the road. He's pitched, played both middle infield postions and the outfield. Sam, along wth Ryan Ingram, display good "pop" in the their bats for kids of their age. Both are tremendous athletes who will be stars in this league in years to come. Ryan has logged a number of innings at 1st Base. Jai Williams is an impressive player who is an asset to the team now and will be a huge asset at some point in the future. He's fast; he has great hands; and he has a desire to get better. A Manager can do a lot with those attributes. I imagine that Jai will be in the running to be our "go to" catcher in 2010. He's potential top of the lineup type batter.

Our lone 9-year old, Luke Burton, has shown an impressive knowledge of the game. He's logged more innings at 2nd Base than any other player on the team and has even made his pitching debut.

We're getting great support from our parents and assistant coaches. I expect this 2009 Coke team will show more improvement from the beginning to the end of the season than any other team at MLL. In our older players, we are still very young in "baseball years". This is a team that is showing a desire to get better and willingness to do what it takes to make the strides we expect.
