The Granite State Big Blue will host the 2011 New England Senior Babe Ruth Regional Tournament (July 21 - July 26) at Memorial Field. Since its establishment in 1997 the Big Blue has captured nine state titles, three New England Regional championships and made four appearances in the Babe Ruth World Series. The Big Blue is lead by captains James Fournier, Patrick Cannon and Michael Smith. Fournier, returns to the Big Blue after hitting .373 and posting a 6-1 record on the mound in 2010. Fournier, who is capable of playing multiple positions, was an NH All-State selection (1st team) after his senior year at Merrimack Valley. Cannon, the Big Blue's offensive spark plug lead-off batter, hit .320 in his first year. Cannon, the team's starting centerfielder, lead the team in 2010 with 10 stolen bases. Smith, a slick fielding middle infielder out of Kearsarge High, batted .388 in his first year with the Big Blue. Smith was a NH All-State selection (2nd team) after his senior season with the Cougars. The Big Blue roster is made up of players from several area high schools, including, Kearsarge, Bow, Concord, Hopkinton and Merrimack Valley. The fundraising season never ends for the Big Blue. Last year the "Friends of Big Blue Baseball" raised over $1,000. With a 2011 budget just over $3,000 the Big Blue Baseball team is seeking donations.
